Channa Horwitz

On April 29, 2013 the art world lost contemporary artist Channa Horwitz. Channa was an artist known for her dizzyingly intricate geometric drawings and paintings. She was featured in the Hammer Museum's biennial “Made in L.A.” in 2012 and has won countless awards throughout her lengthy career even receiving an invitation to participate in this year's Venice Biennale.

Here are some snapshots Hammer Museum's biennial “Made in L.A.”:

If you're in the area, her most recent show is up through June 8th at Francois Ghebaly Gallery in Culver City.

Bold & Beautiful Waylande Gregory

American pottery and ceramics are among some of the most collectable. Edith Heath, Beatrice Wood and Leza McVey are among some of the best known and some of my favorites. Lately I have been more drawn to the work of Waylande Gregory. Bold colors, streamlined animal imagery, it's fun and smart. Born in Kansas, Waylande helped set the tone for the deco ceramics movement.

I think I see a ceramics class in my future…
